The State of the Den

Posted by  Fiz, 17 Aug : 13:57
Well, it's been over a year since we tried Aion, and despite some promise, we also found it to be wanting.

Currently, we are not playing an official MMO as a guild, though there are some that show promise in the future. A few of us will be sampling a change of pace from the medieval realm and be playing DC Universe Online come November. We won't be doing anything widespread to enable as a guild, just a group of friends trying the game out with no expectations of the duration it will last. Hopefully, if it doesn't turn out to be a long time game, it will last until Guild Wars 2 comes out...which has the makings of the guilds next big game possibility. But with no launch date in site other than an estimated 2011 release, we'll hold our excitement for what truly looks like the next big thing. Of course, we will be keeping an eye out for SW:TOR and Earthrise as well, but the former looks like it might not be the type of cuthroat and end game orientated game we're looking for, and the latter looks too amazing to be real...and with the lack of information in the last 6 months coupled with a push back release, we're skeptical it will ever see the light of day, atleast in the capacity we're hoping for. And then, there's always EQNext...

In the meatime, you can find some of us on the gaming grid playing Starcraft 2. Feel free to post in our general forums if you're interested.

DoM going Elyos on Azphel !?!?

Posted by  Fiz, 14 Sep : 16:15
Yes folks, a few days before launch and we've done an old switcheroo with the side we've been planning on playing for the last 6+ months. At the end of the day, it just seemed that every forum, every poll, had the Asmodians significantly outnumbering the Elyos, and if you've followed us in the past, you know we like being the underdog on the server. "But Fiz, isn't Elyos a bit too sunny and cheery for you guys?"....yes, the answer is yes. But since we'll be spending most of our time in the Abyss, we'll try to block it out of our minds. Though for you rp'ers out there...it sure seems like the Elyos are the bigger pricks of the the two sides, so maybe it won't be too much of a transition.

However, best case scenario and my Christmas wish, at some point they'll let guilds betray to become Balur who will face ridiculous penalties with the only added bonus of being able to kill everyone...and you know we'll be the first ones there.

As far as server choice, Azphel seemed as good as any, with some quality named guilds from previous mmo's rolling on the asmo side hopefully ensuring a good competitive balance. That plus the nature of alphabetically 1st servers generally having higher populations made it an attractive choice. And of course, if you're reading this and were one of the guilds in EQ2 we were addicted to repeatedly wiping...here's hoping you try for a little semblance of revenge and choose Azphel as well... it would be nice to see some familiar dead faces.
