i'm glad to see they got back to the island...at least the ones we've seen so far.
i think Ben might have really gotten Penny. i just had a weird theory pop into my head. Eloise told Desmond that the island was not done with him. Desmond says he is done with the island. supposing Ben did kill Penny, maybe that gives Desmond his purpose to return to the island in order to eliminate Ben...releasing the grasp he has on the island, or some other conclusion.
i'm also thinking that Widmore is responsible for Sayid and Hurley being on the plane. When Jack questioned Hurley about why he was there...Hurley dodges with a "at least i'm here." Widmore definitely enticed Hurley and caught Sayid and put him in custody to put him on the plane.
the Aaron thing puzzles me. Widmore could also be behind that. for some reason he wants everyone back on the island. one theory could be that has a team ready to go...all he needs to know is where to send them. once the Ajira flight is reported down, he has his location.
i just caught something during my rewatch. as i proposed earlier, Widmore talked to Hurley and convinced him to return to the island to serve his own objective. maybe their chat was "numbers" related.
When Ben arrives on the plane, Hurley kinda freaks. Jack calms him down and says he will be fine. to which Hurley replies, "yes Jack, I will be fine." that is definitely significant. if my theory is correct, Widmore has something up his sleeve that Ben doesn't realize yet.
Poopy pointed out that the Arabic guy in First Class may be a Widmore plant. Thought it was a good point.
I really dunno where they're going. I appreciated the Christian references this episode. It's about time they got back to the Faith/Science arguments. And like Jack, Thomas of Aquino needed proof to go with his faith. Whereas Locke represents blind faith. The suicide note just further drove that dagger home. Great ep, hope they keep it up.
tonight's ep was pwnin! there are going to be some great rivalries picking up. mainly between Jack and Swayer since Jack is a bloobie janitor and Sawyer is running the show. and obviously between Kate and Juliet. i think i read that a major character is going to be killed off soon. maybe as soon as next episode since we saw Sayid shoot at something.
i'm thinking Hurley might be the next one to get it. i can't see much of a story with him anymore. the other characters are all invested in each and their story lines interweave. and i don't consider Miles or Faraday major enough to get killed yet.
it was good to see Christian again. and i can't wait to see what mysterious island mythology is going to come about with Sun and Lapidus getting to 1977.
im certain that Locke will begin seeking out Richard Alpert to find out wtf is going on.
i agree on kate. and Hurley will be the last person to ever be killed off. And I think Sahid tries to kill child ben next week but something horrible occurs with the whole space/time continuum, or maybe as a result they get sent to another time.
I agree with Fiz on the Hurley thing. He is going no where because he is carrying around Charlie's guitar case. My thoughts is that Ghost Charlie did visit him and perhaps the case in someway is a connection into bring him back.
If a "main" character is going to be whacked its going to be Juilette. Her usefulness has worn off as now the women on the island are secure in producing offspring. Also, the lurv story isn't as interesting if its a love square as opposed to a triangle.
That ep PWNED. The runway Sawyer and Kate were building in season 3 showing up to have a purpose was a nice touch, and the picture of the losties as Dharma recruits in '77 pretty much removes any doubt that Ben already knew them all when they crashed at the beginning of the show, though where were those pics when Locke's group took over the barracks in season 4?
As for speculations, Fiz is correct about Sayid feeling his purpose is to kill young Ben, but we all know you can't change the past and whatever happened happened so Ben won't die. I have a feeling Sayid will turn villain.
Somehow Locke's group is going to have to make it back to 1977 but I have no idea how that's going to happen. As for deaths, it's going to be either Ben, Sawyer, or Daniel. Daniel is the obvious choice as I'd guess he might cause the Incident and die during those events, but Sawyer said he's not there anymore...maybe he left on a sub to do something in 1977 off Island? Sawyer better not be going anywhere, but I'm putting my money on Ben that gets whacked this season. As much as I hate the idea of it it makes the most sense since Young Ben is in the 70s and theres nowhere for Ben to go if everyone else goes back to the 70s. That's my guess at least.
i thought about it more last night and i agree Hurley will not be killed. he's too much of a fan favorite. and i forgot about the guitar thing. my prediction is now Sayid getting offed.
i think Ben still has a purpose. either with the island or with Widmore. i can't see him getting killed unless it is by Locke's hand.
Ben is the fucking man. If they kill Ben off, I will destroy the world with a super-bomb I have hidden in my garage. HEAR ME!?
The whole Ben knowing them as a kid thing.. makes things so so much more intense, intricate, and fucking awesome. This is turning into the best season Lost has ever seen, hands down.
AHAHAH Oshef...every fucking time I got in vent I hear "TERRIBLE...that episode sucked my balls" and now you're the one doing the test sucking lmao. Ben's my fave character as well, but I'm betting he'll be the one that bites it, but he'll be back since young Ben will have to grow up at some point before the show ends.
I doubt Sayid is going to get killed, especially since I'm guessing next week's episode will return to flashbacks and show what really happened to him when he got arrested and he'll end up being a big player in the events to come.
As for Sun and Lapidus and the rest of the Ajira people, I'd imagine that they are still in the same time period that they left (2007) and no time travel occured there. Sawyer and co. took one of their boats when they flashed forward and exchanged shots with them before they flashed back if you recall. Why they ended up there is as good a guess as any though, and WTF happened to Rose and Bernard and the rest of the people left behind?!
Edit: $10 right now says that the crazy event that changes Young Ben to grow into the Ben we all know and love is that Young Ben witnesses the death of Ben so his whole life he knows exactly how he is going to die and therefore explains his huge brass balls to face anything. Make it $100...that's just way too good to NOT happen.

no shit sherlock...that's not even a question that they're not in the same time period. The question is why is Sun not with them in time? I can see the rest of the crew, since they weren't part of the oceanic 6, but Sun puzzles me. Only thing I can think of is it had something to do with her having a child and she didn't return "whole", i.e. with her kid. Dunno why that matters, but my only theory.
The other possibility is they can't cross time-lines. Sun could be Marvin Candle's kid, although it doesn't explain Lepidis.
My original thought was that they ended up in a different timeline altogether. That Dharma with Christian doesn't fit in the storyline. The Dharma signs are still there, the houses are boarded up. So either they're in the time after the DI was purged, but before the Others took it over or...Someone is going to change something in the past, and it created a new future where Dharma was never used by the Others. Unfortunately that goes against everything Faraday has been saying, but where is the little crazy guy anyway?
