Just type in a name, and it generates a random fighter. If you get a Bear or a Hammer you're golden. I had to create 12 guys before I even got a knife.

Need to be level 10 to start a clan. Be sure to enter the tourneys too, there's one each day. I have another char who made it into the 3rd round, but didn't get far enough to get a new title
From what I was told, just keep making chars until you get something good. The best things bar-none are: Hammers, Bears, Clubs. Some folks like faster builds with tridents and swords too. But apparantly now that folks are hitting higher levels, HP, defense, shields become really useful. However the winner of last nights tournament 1-shotted his opponent with a club, so the jury is still out
